OUR STORY

The Story of A Child's Hope Int'l

How It Started

A Child’s Hope Int’l began in the spring of 2008 after founder Larry Bergeron returned from a vision trip to sub-Saharan Africa, where he witnessed the orphan crisis firsthand. The HIV/AIDS epidemic was leaving millions of children without the care and protection of a family, and Larry could not forget what he had seen.

He returned home, stepped away from his role as a church pastor, and founded A Child’s Hope Int’l to help engage and equip the local church to care for vulnerable children. Since then, that calling has grown into a worldwide movement of compassion in action. Together, we have provided more than 60 million high-protein meals, served communities in 33 countries, supported over 80 clean-water projects, strengthened local food security in Greater Cincinnati, and welcomed nearly 200,000 volunteers into meaningful, hands-on service.

Where We're Going

Today, A Child’s Hope Int’l is working locally and internationally to respond to hunger, poverty, and crisis with practical care and lasting hope. We believe the Church is called not only to speak about love, but to live it out through generosity, service, and faithful action.

We are working to expand beyond the 450 Hope Sacks currently provided each week to children in Greater Cincinnati while building deeper, long-term support for trusted partners in India, the Dominican Republic, Somaliland, Guatemala, and beyond. Our vision is to mobilize churches, businesses, families, and individuals to strengthen communities, support vulnerable children, and reflect the love of Jesus in tangible ways. As 1 John 3:18 reminds us, “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” Together, we can help more children thrive and strengthen communities for generations.

JOURNEY TO THE FATHERLESS

JOURNEY TO THE FATHERLESS

The same journey that led Larry to found A Child’s Hope Int’l also inspired him to write Journey to the Fatherless. The book shares more of the story behind the ministry and invites individuals and churches to better understand God’s heart for orphaned and vulnerable children—and consider how they are called to respond.
